We took about 12 days off after the Micro show. We had been in a dead run for a month so we needed a break.
This is some scenes from our adventures. First we loaded up the camper and took it to the river. White Cliffs down on the Little River here in SW Arkansas. Many of you will remember this area from when we went on the gator tour in 2010. ![]() Ah. Butter milk bisquits in the dutch oven. These will make you slap your grandma for being in the kitchen. Above I am using a plastic glass to cut the bisquits after I rolled them out. ![]() almost done but time to turn the lid. ![]() The end result. I used some of our homemade apple butter. Below is were we went kayaking. Lots of gators to look at. Some of them up to 4 foot from the kayak. Some of them around 20 ft away. The only noise back in these places are the planes overhead and the swamp noises. Bob and I use hand signals back in these places ![]() Below is were we are coming out from. This is the end of a several mile long slough that motor boats do not do well in for the most part. It gets really narrow and gatorery as you go back in there. You can almost hear the banjos playing in the background. ![]() Below, is were I had set out some yo yos for catfish. We caught several. This is the White Clifts area on the Little River in SW Arkansas. We thought it kinda neat that last month we were at the white Clifts of Dover in England and we were camping at the White Clifts of Arkansas. There has been a couple of accidents of people falling off of the white clifts. No one has fallen off that did not break at least two bones, some of them a lot of bones. Bob chipped around on the clifts of fossils. So far she has found one fossile sea shell and 3 fossil sand dollars. The river here is deep, It can be good fishing when they are bitting good.It has a bunch of finger type creeks and sloughs running out of/in to it. We favor the swampy sloughs for sight seeing because motor type boats do not get into them. ![]() Below is my rifle and shooting back and my proto of the new folding hunter I am playing with. This morning I took a yearling deer for food and used this knife through out. Normally I advoid cutting the hair anymore than possible just due to it will help wear out an edge. On this one I used it rough. I also split the brisket with it, dejointed the legs with it so ended up quartering the whole deer with this folder. It would shave when I got through with it. It had enough belly to skin with, it had enough point to get down in the leg joints. It is a slip joint with a good spring on it and a half stop. It never tried to fold up on me to the half stop so I was happy with that as well. Overall, this is a good folder. I have some skinning photos that I could post. I am making bisquits now, Bob is making her outstanding gravy and mashed potatos to go with the tenderloin. Life is good. The rifle is about 30 years old now. It is a 45 cal. southern poor boy style with iron mountings and a 40 inch barrell.I have taken mucho deer with this rifle. I had a feller in SC make it for me so I could finish it out when I got it. ![]() It was a much needed good time out. We both are refreshed and ready to get back to work. It is so nice to live here in the Natural State. You don't have to travel half- way across the country to have a good time. It is nice to be able to take short trip and feel like you are a long ways from home.

Hey dude, I thought it was a law in Arkansas that you have to wear a hat! Looks like you both had a good time. You need to shoot the pictures then we get to see "Bob" and not your old self!!

Sounds like my type of time. I always like hunting with my muzzleloader or my stick bow. I guess it's just the challenge, or maybe the nostalgia. Knowing deer have been taken this way for hundreds and hundreds of years. I guess I was born to late. I tell everybody when I go to the Mountains it's as close to God as I can get, I like the one on one with him and his creations. Looks like you had agood time Jerry.

Kevin, and you would be remembering right. Thats why Bob uses a lot of hand signals. ha.
Last year my mother was camping down there. They forgot to put the trash up. They heard the noise and looked out and a dang coon had gotten in the trash bag, it woke them and their camping neighbor up. Both turned out the lights and went back to sleep. About 15 minutes they heard the coon screaming, both them and the neighbors woke up and looked out. A Gator and got the coon and was dragging it off. No one wanders around in the dark down there with out a good light. |
