Nelson-Atkins has been internationally known for it's Asian Department for as long as I can remember. Neat to see this, wish I had the time to visit (used to be called the Nelson Gallery of Art, as I recall) while in KC, but not getting the chance to get out much.

Mark,
Nice Chinese dagger! Thanks for posting the photo. Does the Nelson have a good display of weaponry? The last time that I was there, which was years ago, they were doing a bunch of remodeling and had many of the exhibits closed. I've never got around to going back and checking it out. My last visit was also abbreviated by my being given an escort out of the building. I had neglected to remove a small belt knife when I went in. Six guys surrounded me in a narrow gallery area and they walked me to the door. They took a dim view of me carrying a "weapon" into the museum.

No extensive display of weaponry, just some pieces here and there in the context of items used everyday within the cultures represented.
