Until JR sent this knife for me to photograph, I had totally forgotten that the world will end as we know it on 12/21/12, according the the much-discussed Mayan 'long-view' calendar. Pulling from that source and New Testament book The Revelation of St. John the Divine, JR built this very bold End Time sub-hilt fighter based on his Arkansas Razorback model. There is a companion knife in the works and both will be featured as part of a special display at JR Cook's BLADE Show table in June.
Quiz: Name the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Hint: They are named for what they each bring down on human kind.* ![]() *Pestilence, War, Famine and Death Last edited by Buddy Thomason; 04-29-2012 at 05:06 AM. |

Buddy,
Great shot of a beautiful knife. Since the world is supposedly going to end on Dec. 21, 2012m can I get the knife on Dec. 22? Quiz answer: Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death. Jim |

Another terrific portrait, Buddy.
How was that pattern produced on the blade? Also, is the handle mammoth ivory or something else?

Quote:
The Damascus it what is called the Texas Wind pattern over random Damascus. The horsemen I hand draw over the Damascus with a resist before etching the Damascus. It is an old method of acid engraving. You see this process on a lot of the old knives of the 18th century The handle is Walrus and is from the same tusk as is the Dagger that matches this knife.. I am sending the Dagger to Buddy and hope he cam get as good of shot of it as he has done on the Razorback . I have a stone Mayan Calendar the knife will mount on for display at the Blade show. It was just too big to ship for the photos. Thanks Buddy for the great photo. JR |

JR,
Thanks for that explanation of the process. Regardless of how you did it, I should have mentioned that the result is cool. I look forward to seeing it in Atlanta.

Thank you. Yes, please come by the table and take a look at it in Atlanta.
I hope to have all 4 horsemen there. You will see them as Buddy gets them shot, but there is nothing like holding it in your hand Thanks again for your positive comments JR |
