Default Winkler chopper

First off, I would like to say that I had an amazing time at Blade this year and for those who I met, believe me, it was my pleasure! Thanks so much for a wonderful and memorable trip! I received this Winkler chopper from a customer of mine and wanted to post some pictures. I have always been a fan of his work but never had a chance to sharpen any of his knives. I must say, I was absolutely impressed by this blade: all business. I'm not sure what type of steel was used but I know it was a higher carbon steel. I have always been a sucker for more "organic" knives. I find this beast interesting for a few different reasons - it definitely has the organic, almost primal look but when held, you can tell everything about this knife was designed with purpose and function in mind. The blade design speaks for it self but I found the handle most interesting. It fit my hand like a glove. The wood is rounded and contoured to give one a natural grip and in a way, almost feels soft and slightly tacky. When you point the knife at something the natural curvature in the handle and the blade angle the edge down slightly which would create a more effective cut. There is a reason MS is stamped on this knife! I must say, it took one hell of an edge too! I have sharpened a LOT of carbon steel in my day but this guy was something else. It took an edge that was so precise that when using it, one could have complete control over the most minute of tasks. I was able to whittle leather like it was nothing and had complete control over the knife and the leather. Working with knives of this quality is what makes me truly happy!

I will post pictures of the awesome bowie I picked up from Dave Lisch later.

Cool knife. I'd love to hack at something with that! Your edges always look very clean and sharp!!

Yeah, Jon is on target-- those are really nice bevels.

What a beautiful beast of a chopper. Everything works together to create a whole that is greater than the sum of it's parts. Ya done good!

Albert thanks for sharing this fine working knife and your clean work. You are in a unique position to see some really fine knives though I am know it is a responsibility. This is a really good looking user.

This knife is really cool. The look is rustic and the performance sounds fantastic. Great combination of attributes!
