Here's a fine-detail image of a small section of a major Warenski piece. Because the pave-set diamonds and rubies are in hand-pierced fine silver, there's a bit of intended contrast in the background. This small section holds about 1/3 of the total gems in the piece.

Image credit for this detail pic will appear later, to a wonderful creator of major book publications. One can probably guess both the piece and the book author.

Hope you enjoy.

I recently finished a new knife. The knife is on topic Greek mythology. Depicts the goddess of victory Nike, in a chariot.
I have used extremely well chosen combination of a miniature sculpture, which goes in deeply engraved relief and banknote style.
The sculptural image of the goddess, all engravings and decorative items are handmade /no casts/. Furthermore, the product has a hidden attraction-lighter, and a miniature sword in scabbard.
Data of the knife:
overall length- 208 mm
blade length – 100 mm
Materials: Blade- RWL 34,handle -steel D2, gold 18k

This is the dagger in JR's 2012 End Time series of 4 knives weaving together Mayan end time calendar mythology, and the Christian version when the four horsemen of the apocalypse bring it down on the people: pestilence, war, famine and death. The second image features the dagger with the fighter recently posted by me.
Chuck Ward recently photographed the other two in the series. Very interesting concept, IMHO, and well executed by JR Cook.
This features an antique Edo period tsuba, or guard. It's about 200 years old and is full of subtle beauty.

The blade is W2 and measures 18 3/4" from the machi to the tip. The sori, or curvature is a mild 6mm or 1/4". The geometry is shobu zukuri with a choji hamon.

I have the mostly commonly discussed books on Bowies. There has been a shift in modern making (in my opinion) to a somewhat standard proportion for "Gents" Bowies.

I am not suggesting that the upper end Bowies look alike...just that there seems to be some consistent features that are usually not listed.

For instance- a classic contemporary Bowie of a bit over 9" in length tends to have a ricasso of about 1/4" thickness and a width of about 2/3rds of the blade width. The blade tip tends to fall in a centerline of the blade mass when bisecting the line to the mid ricasso. At least this is what I seem to see.

Is a ricasso of 1/4", 1 " width, 3/4- 1" length about right for a 9 1/4" blade length , 1 1/2" width (as an average)?

I apologize in advance if this post seems to ignore the variety and art of each individual maker. That is not my intent.

Thanks-
